Massage Mentoring
last week I had a fantastic day mentoring in Barnstaple as part of a two day mentoring package with some space in between too practice. As many of you know, I taught massage for 5 years and I wrote and taught level 3 diplomas in body massage and sports massage, as well as CPD accredited courses in hot stone, lymphatic bodywork, deep tissue and advanced bodywork. Unfortunately I had to stop during year two of university as I became very overwhelmed with my workload and when it was time to pay for another years registration with FHT I decided not to go ahead.
The mentoring in Barnstaple involved supporting a lady to move away from a gentle and relaxing spa routine style to incorporate working according to peoples individual needs, using a client centered approach. We worked together to find ways she could easily get positive results for her clients and to start exploring creative ways to work, using some new tools to keep things interesting and to save her body so that she has a long career. Once she has practised and gained some confidence to move out of her routine, we will spend another day refining techniques and introducing some deep tissue and bodywork tools so that she can confidently use a variety of skills to adapt to a variety of needs. I will also provide some great material to take away and be available for on-going support.
If you would like some mentoring to get back into massage / bodywork after a break or to incorporate new skills and gain some support with your client’s needs, I would like too offer personalised mentoring. I can come to your workplace or you can come to me. I can also provide models to work on if needed. Please email me: enquiries@coastaltherapiesdevon.co.uk
Mentoring can include some or all:
Supporting you to manage client’s expectations, questions & requests (sometimes we just need support or to be able to go over case loads with someone. Often this confirms you’re doing all the right things but lack confidence, rather than not being qualified or experienced enough.
Up-skilling- maybe you feel stuck in a rut or would like to get a fresh approach to treating people but don’t want to undertake written assignments or exams. Or would you like to learn new bodywork techniques, concepts and principles to get positive results (they might not be what you’re expecting and are far from complex).
Or maybe you are wanting to become self-employed and make massage your main income, rather than a side line but don’t know where to start?
I can also offer business mentoring, but I feel this is only likely useful to those who want to grow their business from home, or self-employed clinic work, rather than having a shop front. For years I thought I wanted a shop front. However with a young family and a passion for acquiring more and more knowledge, I burnt out out several times churning out back to back massages so I left clinic to set up full time at home. This is where I learnt through my own mentorship programs that for me, the personal cost of having a shop front hugely outweighed any benefits and that my values are having enough balance to be able to be creative and pursue projects and to enjoy my family. I spent years finding a way to have a successful business, which didn’t feel inauthentic, or a hustle. I no longer desire or have the ability to play the social media game (I have tried to maintain consistency and succumbed to the pressures of humiliating myself by doing terrible vlogs and wasting hours on content in the past) and for me personally as an introvert found it a negative experience. These days I am taking a lighthouse approach and I am happy to share these skills with you, if you resonate. I have managed to achieve an incredible set up at home, where I am now very happy and can change and adapt according to my families needs and my need to pursue various projects when I have ideas. If finding your true values and setting goals if something you would like to explore, I would love to work with you.
I have 12 years of recourses, and self-written courses to pull from and I have had the pleasure of being mentored by the best possible mentors (in my very biased opinion) over the years and would love to share much of this wisdom with you.
